Supporters See Ministry in Action in Nepal
In November 2019, several of our supporters and board member Lori Schmidt joined us for a trip to Nepal to visit our partners Anandaban Hospital and Lalgadh Leprosy Hospital. During a week at these sites, we witnessed firsthand the work of healing and hope that you make possible for people suffering from leprosy and related diseases.
Two of our U.S. staff traveled with the group and they met our regional director, Dr. Sunil Anand, in Nepal. While visiting Anandaban and Lalgadh hospitals, the group observed several ongoing projects and areas of care. Thanks to your support and a grant from USAID’s American Schools and Hospitals Abroad (ASHA) program, Anandaban Hospital is building a new, three-story facility that will help them better serve people with leprosy and related diseases, as well as pregnant women, new mothers, and emergency victims.
At Lalgadh Leprosy Hospital, the group visited the footwear and prosthetics department that provides people affected by leprosy with special, protective footwear and prosthetic limbs. Our supporters also spent time with residents of Lalgadh Care Haven, a residential home for people who can no longer live independently.
One of the many trip highlights was a visit to the women-led water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) groups started this past year. Women participating in this project educate their communities about the importance of clean water and sanitation in reducing disease. They’ve also installed several hand-washing stations and other hygiene equipment at local schools.
After this trip to see our ministry in Nepal, here’s what our donors are saying:
“American Leprosy Missions empowers people to reduce disease by expanding access to clean water and improved sanitation. To see these programs in practice has been a revelation. They take a tiny investment and they change generations with it. They change entire worlds.”
– James Knode, supporter
“Patients have gone from a place where they didn’t have hope and faith to a place where they feel motivated to get up early in the morning and come and praise God [during chapel]. They find peace and joy among people who are also followers of Jesus Christ and sharing that love.”
– Lori Schmidt, board member and supporter
“If you have an opportunity to donate, this is an incredible organization and mission and I would encourage anybody to get involved to the greatest possible degree you can… This organization should be at the very top of your priority list.”
– David Hughes, supporter
Lives are healed and transformed daily through your partnership with us. Together, we are pursuing the end of leprosy and bringing hope and dignity to people in Nepal and across the world.
